At AdvisHer, we believe prioritizing wellness, keeping active, and focusing on your health are critical components to living meaningful, purposeful lives. The beautiful blonde ladies behind the popular Fitcityblonde blog also share these beliefs. We recently caught up with Jeannie Smith, one of the blonde #bossladies, for a sneak peak into their wonderful community and to learn how she is prioritizing her financial health this year.
AdvisHer: Tell us about your Crew – who is fitcityblonde?
Jeannie: fitcityblonde is made up of three blondes who met in college, who are now balancing healthy lifestyles + big-girl jobs in Chicago (Jeannie + Christina) and LA (Elizabeth). Aside from it keeping our friendships strong (we literally talk all day, every day), we love engaging and building community with our #fitcityfam! When people message us and say they tried a new class because we recommended it or are seeing great results with a brand we promote or even just WANT to work out with us at all – wowowow – it’s a feeling we can’t describe. We’re so happy to be here and love everyone who has joined us on this crazy adventure!
AdvisHer: What was your inspiration for starting fitcityblonde?
J: The three of us started corporate 9-5’s immediately after graduation and found the routines + recommendations of many of the fitness leaders we were following on Instagram to be unrealistic for the average worker-bee. So, we started fitcityblonde with the goal of providing a REALISTIC source of health + fitness for the average city-dwelling, working twenty-something.
AdvisHer: Take us through a day in the life!
J: A typical morning begins around 5:30am, when I roll out of bed to get to a 6am yoga or pilates class. By 7:30, I’m home and logging into my computer with a hot mug of tea in hand. I have the luxury of working from home, so I spend much of my day in the kitchen on my laptop and on phone calls, with my golden retriever snuggled at my feet. Meals are 99% prepared and consumed at home — I really do love spending time in the kitchen — and my husband and I try to eat together most nights. I also teach yoga 5 days a week, so most days I find myself at the yoga studio both in the morning and in the evening. Because my schedule isn’t busy enough… I fit blogging and freelancing in on the side. It’s actually amazing how much time is available to you when you’re fueled properly, well-rested, and focused on things you love to do!

AdvisHer: What is your favorite way to break a sweat?
J: I’m a longtime lover of yoga, which is my go-to when I feel the need to MOVE. But lately, my favorite workout has been megaformer pilates – it gets into the tiny muscles you didn’t even know existed! I’ve found that slow and controlled resistance training works best for my body.
AdvisHer: If you could give your younger self some advice, what would it be?
J: Stop caring what other people think. That’s a tough thing for a teen to really realize, and it’s something we deal with into adulthood. But it’s incredibly freeing!
AdvisHer: How do you prioritize your financial health?
J: My financial health is appropriately high on my list of priorities. My husband, Chris, and I are candid about where we are now and our goals for the future, which is extremely important in a relationship. We finished off 2018 with a check-in meeting, going over what 2019 will look like, where we need to cut back in our spending and the areas we’d like to put our money. I’ve found that having frequent conversations and check-ins is key to feeling empowered – and sometimes it’s actually fun!
AdvisHer: What are your financial goals for 2019?
J: Save, save, save. 2018 was a big year for me. I got married, bought a house with my husband, and began teaching yoga on a part-time basis. I’ve never been fearful of paying attention to my finances (I think that’s the finance major in me), but I could definitely do a better job of thinking about the future. One day, I’d love to have my own business of some sort, so shifting into the saving mentality will be key!
